Description
A very large iron currency unit comprised of a heavy sheet of iron forged into the shape of a curved hoe. This sculpture of Iron was traditionally a customary gift for a bride’s father as well as having a function during wedding celebrations. Angas or Afo peoples, Nigeria, West Africa. This Hoe currency measures 27.75 inches x 18 inches x 1/2 inch deep. 35.75 inches tall on custom metal display stand. Provenance: A Private New Jersey collection.
