Description
Northern Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, second half of 19th century CE. A handmade Hawaiian plantation era feather lei hat band, the feathers displaying a variety of red and purple hues with black, white, and golden feathers creating a subtle pattern. This feathered hat lei was painstakingly made by overlapping successive rows of feathers onto the previous rows and attaching all to a backing to create an aesthetically pleasing layered, almost scale-like effect. A gorgeous and very lengthy example! Size: 24.75" L x 1" W (62.9 cm x 2.5 cm)
