A signed and inscribed Judy Garland Sings album sleeve, gifted to actress and singer Barbara Cook for her birthday. US: MGM Records, 1951. P. M., catalog number MGM E82. Sleeve measures 10 1/4 x 10 1/4 inches (25.75 x 25.75 cm). Wear to sleeve, with rubbing soiling and water staining, one corner bumped, edges splitting in a few areas, inscriptions somewhat faded, the record a bit dusty with some faint scratching.
An association copy of the 1951 album Judy Garland Sings, a compilation of some of Garland's best-known recordings, featuring songs from her by composers such as Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein, Cole Porter, and Harold Arlen. This record was signed and inscribed to Broadway actress and singer Barbara Cook for her birthday. In an August 11, 2017 interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air, Cook credits Garland as being an early mentor and idol, stating that, what Garland taught her about singing "was to think about shaping a song so that it had a beginning, a middle and an end and so that it had a kind of emotional line. And that was something that hadn't occurred to me before."
Provenance: Collection of Barbara Cook, by descent to her son, actor Adam LeGrant
