The funeral itineraries and service programs for Queen Mary, the mother of the late King George VI, include a service prayer and hymn pamphlet, a program for the funeral procession, and a letter from Lord Chamberlin's office.
The funeral itineraries and service programs for the Duke of Windsor include a service prayer and hymn pamphlet, a program for the funeral procession, and a voucher admittance to St. George's Chapel where the services were held.
Queen Mary was the mother to both King George VI and the Duke of Windsor; Queen Mary never forgave her son the Duke of Windsor for abdicating to marry Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor. She held her second son in high esteem for putting his duty for pride and country first, to maintain the monarchy.
The card comes from the estate of Marion Thorpe, maiden name Stein, who was a concert pianist who married George Lascelles, the 7th Earl of Harewood in 1949 becoming the Countess of Harewood. Queen Elizabeth II was Earl Harewood’s first cousin and attended their wedding. During her marriage to the Earl of Harewood, Queen Elizabeth II and the countess became close friends. The couple divorced in 1967 and Marion remarried politician Jeremy Thorpe. Marion’s son David Lascelles is the current 8th Earl of Harewood.
