A group of three items related to King Charles III, including an invitation, evening ball itinerary and menu, and a program for the investiture for the-then Prince of Wales.
Included is an invitation sent to "The Rt. Hon. Jeremy & Mrs. Thorpe" to attend the investiture for The Prince of Wales, signed by the Earl Marshal Norfolk. Also included is an evening program for a ball hosted by Princess Margaret and Earl Snowden, printed in both Welsh and English. Together with the ceremonial program for The Prince of Wales investiture printed in both Welsh and English.
Before his investiture, Prince Charles was taken out of Cambridge University and sent to Aberystwyth University in Wales to study and learn Welsh.
These royal event itineraries and documents are from the estate of Marion Thorpe, maiden name Stein, who was a concert pianist who married George Lascelles, the 7th Earl of Harewood in 1949 becoming the Countess of Harewood; Queen Elizabeth II was Earl Harewood’s first cousin and attended their wedding. During her marriage to the Earl of Harewood, Queen Elizabeth II and the countess became close friends. The couple divorced in 1967 and Marion remarried politician Jeremy Thorpe. Marion’s son David Lascelles is the current 8th Earl of Harewood.
