Description
Set of mid-Edo period plates with molded design under the glaze of a boy and a tiger in a rocky landscape, and with a four line inscription, likely a poem, in underglaze blue. Barbed edge with brown dressing. Underside with square shop mark in underglaze blue within a blue circle. Possibly Higuchi kiln, Nangawara Valley. Dark spots from impurities in the clay. Scattered glaze contractions. Single kiln spur and unglazed foot rim. One plate has old dark hairline. Another has very small chip to foot rim. Approx. 7" D.
