Asian Basalt Stone Buddha Head Lidded Vessel. Size 10 1/4 inches high. Carved stone (probably basalt) Buddha head urn. The style shows heavy influence from late Gandhara art especially in lower facial details as well in the simple but detailed Ushnisha head piece. The ears are long but still in a moderate size as usual in early representations of Bodhisattvas. Some pieces similar to the presented lot are found in West Tibet plateau as well as Chinese Turkmenistan. There is a possibility that the piece was intended originally to be used as an architectural detail, probably a chapitel more than a proper shrine votive object.
