A very nice Japanese ivory cane of a dog and drum. The elephant ivory handle is 2" high and 1 1/4" at it widest. It depicts in very fine detail, a small dog with tiny yellow eyes, sitting on a round drum while holding the drumsticks in its paws. There is a 1/2" brass collar on a shaft of light-toned and nicely figured Hawaiian koa wood. A 7/8" horn ferrule completes the piece. The overall length is 37 1/2" and the condition is very good. It is perhaps American, made with an imported handle, ca 1915. It is a fine Japanese ivory example with an amusing theme. Estimate: $900-$1300.
