First edition of the first published appearance. Two volumes,
consisting of the entire run of 1845
(January through December, Vol I, no. I through Vol. II, no. VI);
octavo two portrait frontispieces inserted in Volume I,
and one portrait inserted in Volume II. Contemporary half brown calf over marbled boards, spines tooled and ruled in gilt in compartments, four raised bands, red and black gilt Morocco lettering labels. Appears on pages 143-145 of Volume I under the pseudonym "Quarles."

Spines worn and chipped, with a large portion (and a black label) missing from Volume II; joints cracking; boards worn. Bookplates on front pastedowns; ink notes to the first text leaf of each volume; glue residue to both rear pastedowns; text a bit toned with occasional light creasing or foxing. Good overall
