Description
(1) Manuel Rodriguez Guillen (Mexican, b. 1972). Mata Ortiz pottery jar. Signed on underside of base; (2) Ismael Loya (Mexican, 20th-21st century CE). Mata Ortiz pottery jar. Signed on underside of base; (3) Porfirio Pilo Mora (Mexican, 20th to 21st century). Mata Ortiz pottery jar, 2003. Signed with year on underside of base. A beautiful trio of pottery jars, each adorned with carefully, hand-painted abstract imagery of the Mata Ortiz tradition. The largest is by Manuel Rodriguez Guillen and displays an ovoid body that tapers to a narrow neck and flared rim. The exterior is meticulously adorned with complex, Escher-like designs. Next, the squat vessel with the rounded shoulder and petite base was created by Ismael Loya and painted with stylized, ribbon-like imagery. Last, the jar by Porfirio Pilo Mora boasts a piriform body with a marbleized ground beneath ornate scrolling motifs. Size of largest (Manuel Rodriguez Guillen): 8.9" Diameter x 11" H (22.6 cm x 27.9 cm)
