Description
Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 22nd Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 720 BCE. A mold-formed pottery ushabti standing in mummiform with black-painted agricultural implements held in arms crossed atop the chest. The protruding face is decorated with black brows, almond eyes, and a slender fillet tied around the back, and a rectangular seed bag is painted along the verso. Inscribed down the white-ground figure is a black column of hieroglyphs that, when translated, reads, "The illuminated one, the Osiris, Ankhefenkhonsu." Size: 1.16" L x 1.53" W x 3.95" H (2.9 cm x 3.9 cm x 10 cm); 5.05" H (12.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Exhibited at the Drexel Museum, Philadelphia, 1895 to 1914; with the Drexel Institute Collection, Minneapolis Museum of Art, 1915 to 1958, ref. no. 16.731; at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the "Temple, Tomb, and Dwelling" exhibition at CSUSB, 1992-1993; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and periodically in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1994 to 2023
