Iconic Althof Bergmann Key Wind Fire Pumper with deluxe clockwork key wind mechanism. Toy circa 1885 from New York, NY firm Bergmann features top features of the day in toys. Fire engine is drawn by two horses, not one, features twin cast iron "valve" wheels, cast iron wagon wheels, twin hand painted riders, heavily embossed floral boiler top, wooden pressure vessel, and hand stenciled floral boiler sides. Note that a less deluxe version of this toy is on the cover of Louis Hertz's "The Antique Toy Collector"; provenance is from the Stevie and Bill Weart toy collection. Windup mechanism works, older and exacting restored condition. At about 135 years of age a necessity. 16" long by 7" high.
