This steatite bifacial seal, measuring 6x5 cm or approximately 2.36x1.97 inches, features intricate carvings of mythical creatures on both sides, which is emblematic of Neo-Assyrian art dating from 900 to 600 BC. The motifs present a blend of zoomorphic and mythical elements, suggesting themes of power and protection that were prevalent in the iconography of the time.
Provenance: Acquired by a British officer during the Mesopotamian campaign in World War I, the seal was later part of a private collection in Surrey. It came into the possession of Mrs. L.B., a collector from London, in the 1980s. The artifact has been examined and certified by experts in ancient Near Eastern art, attesting to its authenticity and period.
