Title: Splitting the Red Collection.
Artist: Richard Anuszkiewicz (1930-2020)
Silk screen paper greeting card, undated.

Richard Anuszkiewicz was an American painter and printmaker, best known for his Op Art (optical illusion art). He had a love for vibrant colors and geometric patterns. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Anuszkiewicz was the son of Polish immigrants. He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and received his MFA at Yale University, where he was a student of Josef Albers. During the 1960s and 70s, when Op Art was in vogue, Anuszkiewicz was a major contributor of the movement. Art critique Holland Cutter once said of his work "the drama - and that feels like the right word - is in the subtle chemistry of complementary colors, which makes the geometry glow as if light were leaking out from behind it."
Anuszkiewicz passed away on May 19, 2020.
