[DOYLE, Arthur Conan (1859-1930)]. A large group of early ephemera related to Doyle, his stories, and the theatre including:
2 color illustrated postcards for “Sir Nigel” in the Philadelphia Press Sunday magazine and Strand Magazine; 3 prospectus’ for Doyle stories published by John Murray; 2 RPPCs of William Gillette (one framed with a cut signature); 2 bookmarks (one framed); a cabinet card dated 1894 that advertises “Five Famous Authors” including Doyle; 2 RPPCs of Doyle including one of a famous bust by Kouneff; RPPC of Lewis Waller as “Brigadier Gerard”; 2 postcards showing the house where Spiritualism originated; a small card on heavy stock showing a portrait of a young Doyle and listing several of his early stories; a Conan Doyle forged bookplate as noted in the Book Collector’s Market, Vol. 4, No. 6, November/December 1979; a theatre program for Doyle’s play “A Story of Waterloo” performed at the Royal Lyceum Theatre; also with a small booklet published by Samuel French; a small handbill for “Sherlock Holmes or The Sign of Four at the Lyceum Theatre”; RPPC of a portrait of Max Pemberton, inscribed by him in lower margin; a prospectus for the Collier 10-volume set of Doyle’s works.
