Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin-Maranon, ca. 1000 BCE. A hand-built pottery stirrup vessel depicting an abstract zoomorphic creature, perhaps a mystical entity, with a sculpted simian head, incised striations emulating bird feathers, and a conical tail resembling that of a duck. Russet and light orange pigment create the zoomorphic presentation of the body while light brown pigment decorates the face. Size: 9" L x 6.3" W x 8.3" H (22.9 cm x 16 cm x 21.1 cm)

Condition
Professionally repaired and restored, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to pigment, with softening to some incised decorations, and age-commensurate pitting. Nice preservation to zoomorphic form. Previous inventory label on bottom.
