Newbold Hough Trotter (1827 - 1898) was active/lived in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Known for rural genre, landscape and animal paintings. It was not until 1867 that Newbold Trotter turned to painting as a full time occupation. He had been in business in Philadelphia and served in the Germantown Home Guards during the Civil War. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1858 to 1887 and at the National Academy of Design and the Boston Athenaeum as well. Newbold Hough Trotter is believed to have traveled in the western plains, California, and took a trip to North Africa. Sight: 10-1/4" high x 6-3/4" wide. Overall with frame: 16" high x 12-1/2" wide. Paint losses, rippling and creases in canvas. Frame with losses. LR
