Description
Set of six (6) St Louis Thistle Pattern cut crystal champagne glasses, each with thistle-shaped bowl; anthemion etched accents; fluted body with almond cuts; faceted, notched stem; and gilt rinceau rim and base. Unmarked. 5" H. 20th century.
PROVENANCE: By descent from USN Capt. Waldo Evans (1869-1936), commanding officer of the USS New Orleans and the USS St. Louis during World War I, Governor of Samoa 1920-22, and Gov. of the U.S. Virgin Islands from 1927-1931. According to family history, this crystal was used during Evans' tenure as in the Government House of the U.S. Virgin Islands for special dinners, including the one hosted for Charles Lindbergh on Jan. 31, 1928, as part of his Goodwill Tour following his successful non-stop flight to Paris, France.
