Description
Thomas Waine Perry (American/California, 1865-1940) oil on canvas painting depicting a California valley, likely in or near Inyo County. A lone figure works in a hayfield near a river, at the base of a large mountain, with trees growing along the riverbank and one large tree in the foreground. Signed lower right "T.W. Perry" and dated Oct. 1890. Housed in a molded giltwood frame. Sight: 35 1/2" W x 19 12"H. Frame - 42 1/2W x 26 1/2"H.
Note: Thomas Waine Perry was a California native who was living in Independence, Inyo County, in 1892, the same year he exhibited at the California State Fair. He worked as a railroad conductor in addition to painting and was in Sonoma by 1900 and San Francisco in 1910. Source: Edan Hughes, "Artists of California 1786-1940".
PROVENANCE: The estate of Hunter Kay, Franklin, Tennessee.

PROVENANCE: The estate of Hunter Kay, Franklin, Tennessee.
Condition
Painting in very good condition, with a half dozen tiny flakes along lower edge near frame, and minor craquelure in large tree branches. Frame has scattered surface abrasions and losses up to 3/4", primarily to lower right edge, and scratching to rabbet edge.
