He was an American visual artist based in New York City. He started off his career as a designer at the Museum of Modern Art and created illustrations for several publishing houses. He also taught at Pratt Graphic Center, Brooklyn College and NY City Technical College. He illustrated many books. He also created many woodcuts, posters, record album designs from MGM and Columbia. His works have been shown at The Library of Congress, The Museum of Modern Art, The Brooklyn Musuem, The San Francisco Musuem of Art , etc. His work is also on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution. He was also proprietor of the Rosenhouse Gallery in NY. He was the recipient of many awards. An award is also given in his name by the Society of American Graphic Artists.
