A Chinese jade 'chilong' toggle
18th century
A round toggle carved to one side with lingzhi, and fitted with a second piece of carved jade featuring dual-facing chilong. The carving is attached to the toggle with a jade hinge, allowing for mobility.
H: 2 1/8, W: 2 1/8, D: 3/8 in.
H: 5.4, W: 5.4, D: 0.95 cm.
Provenance: From Ms. Chou, Seattle, Washington. Collected from the 1960s to 1970s by her father, Dr. Edward Chou, who was a surgeon in Hong Kong. This collection was shipped to the US in the late 70s and was kept in the house thereafter. With a letter of provenance.
