Description
Rare 1840s-1860s American Civil War Used English Bowie Knife Dagger with Fine Blued Blade Etched with Motto "FIRM AS A OAK, IN MY OWN DEFENSE". With Horn grips and German silver mounts, original scabbard with pressed and colored decorations, interesting and unusual maker's logo pressed on each side of the scabbard. Massive double edged blade once 100% blued, now heavily worn, still showing partially visible rare Motto "Firm as a Oak in My Own Defense" and very well preserved maker's logo struck in very fine font at ricasso. A rare and exceptionally well built large bowie, most definitely to have taken service during the American Civil War. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 11 1/2", Blade Length : 7 1/8".
