Description
Circa 1905. Unsigned. The front of the brooch depicts a smiling young woman at the helm of a sailing yacht, wearing a Captain's hat and with her scarf blowing in the wind. In the distance is another ship sailing in the rough seas. The scene is lively and attractive. A rare figural piece of jewelry from the early years of the 20th century Women's Suffrage Movement.
Not marked as to maker but is in the style of the Unger Bros. Hallmarked: STERLING FRONT (on the non-sterling back). The front is sterling. The back is likely made of a lower grade of silver shows tarnish.
Height: 1 1/4 "
Width: 1 1/8 "
PROVENANCE: Los Angeles estate collection.
CONDITION: The pin has light surface wear and tarnish but is in otherwise in very good antique condition. Would look great if properly, but lightly polished.
