Greek, Asia Minor, Turkey, Aeolis region, Cyme (Kyme), ca 165 to 140 BCE. A large Aeolis minted AR Tetradrachm under Magistrate Demetrios in the city of Cyme (sometimes Kyme) an ancient city on modern day Turkey's coast. The obverse: a head of the Amazon Kyme right, hair bound in a taenia. The reverse is a horse walking right with a one-handled cup below, and name of the ruling magistrate, all within a wreath. The coin is set in a modern gold pendant setting with 6 rubies and 5 diamonds along the edge and 5 diamonds in the bail. The bail has a figure-8 safety clasp that makes this pendant easily interchangeable with any necklace or chain. Size of pendant: 2.25" L x 1.25" W (5.7 cm x 3.2 cm); coin: 1.12" Diameter (2.8 cm) gold quality: 50.3% (equivalent to 12K); silver quality: 93.3%; weight: 27.8 grams

Provenance: ex-private Las Vegas, Nevada, USA collection, acquired prior to the 1990s

Coin is Very Fine (VF), Some rubbing and nicks. Areas of patina and toning. Set in a modern gold setting as a wearable pendant. Chip to one ruby and light wear to gold from use. Bail has a figure-8 safety clasp.
