North America, United States, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A fabulous hand-carved wood figure of a female Zuni tribe member, elaborately adorned with a horsehair coiffure, a violet fabric dress, a sheer apron with a lace trim, a felt sash with yarn embroidery, and a wooden olla balancing on top of her head. Intricate jewelry of metal alloy and turquoise-hued enamel additionally embellish her hair, wrists, ears, and neck, while a vibrant cape falls down her back. Strips of white leather wrap around her legs to form her boots. "Zuni Olla Maiden" is inscribed on a tree branch that lays before her. A figure like this would have served as a display piece in a museum. Size: 5.5" L x 7" W x 15.1" H (14 cm x 17.8 cm x 38.4 cm)

Condition
Missing tip of proper right index finger. Light surface wear as shown, but otherwise mostly intact with nice preservation of ornament. "S. HAH" inscribed on underside of base.
