Lucy Mapsalak, (First Nations Canadian, Inuit, b. 1931) "Hunter," carved soapstone & antler, ca. 1990 CE. A caribou antler base supporting a stone hunter with a harpoon made from antler, a sinew line, and a stone seal. An owl and narwhale are also perched on the antler via pegs. The underside of the narwhale is signed in Inuktitut syllabic script and the year. Lucy (sometimes spelled Lucie) Mapsalak is an Inuit artist from Naujaat (Repulse Bay) in Nunavut province. Size: 7" L x 5" W x 6" H (17.8 cm x 12.7 cm x 15.2 cm)

Condition
Bird's peg is a paper replacement, and all figurines are removable from antler base. Chip to the bird's beak and narwhale fins, otherwise intact. Signed in Inuktitut on narwhale with year. Original Canada sale tag included.
