North America, 20th century. Signed "Forsha" or "Porsha" underfoot. An elegant glazed ceramic lidded teapot, wheel thrown, trimmed and modeled by hand, presenting a magnificent white tail deer antler handle with crescent-shaped clay appliques at each end. The crescent shaped applique above the spout features a human visage crowned by a zoomorph, while the one at the opposite end is incised with a profile zoomorphic face and is secured to the antler with leather cord; both appliques are embellished with red iron oxide. The vessel body is embellished with cobalt blue lyrical motifs over glazes in shades of teal and russet red; the lid is embellished with teal glaze over the knob and center with a border of iron oxide; the interior of the body is covered in a lustrous glaze of deep garnet hues.
