Description
A 19TH CENTURY FRENCH GLOBE CLOCK, VICENTIE ET CIE, PARIS

the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the backplate bearing the trademark stamp of the maker and numbered 6649, contained in a blue lacquer globe with raised gilt-brass Roman numerals and decorative applied raised stars, held aloft by three gilt-metal winged cherubs standing on a cylindrical white marble base with applied gilt-metal floral mounts, on a further shaped base and standing on four gilt-metal feet. 41.5cm high

Vincenti started his workshops before 1823 in Montbeliard, France making the blancs roulants (rough movements) for clockmakers to finish and use, but went bankrupt a year later, whereupon the clock manufacturer Roux took on the management. Although Vincenti died in 1834, the business continued, winning several awards including the Medaille d'Argent (silver medal) in 1855.
