Description
PROVENANCE: From the Collections of Franklin Wood (1924-2019) Cartersville, GA. Franklin was born in a small farmhouse near White GA in 1924. After spending his early childhood on the family farm the family moved to the City of Cartersville where he attended school graduating in 1942. Franklin entered the Navy as a cadet aviator. On March 3, 1943, John was commissioned an Ensign and received his Wings of Gold, becoming one of the Navy's youngest naval aviators. In 1947, Franklin was retired from the Navy. He was a civilian flight instructor, supervisor and squadron commander in the Primary Training Squadron Flying Training Air Force. He met his wife Ying Su while she was attending flight training safety courses. Ying Su came from a prominent family in China. Her family blessed her marriage with numerous pieces of porcelains and Jade. The items in this sale are from her collection.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Period Duck sculpture Aromatherapy porcelain Incense Burner. The duck stand with straight neck and legs, gallant with head look up, raised on short rectangle foot base. The Mandarin duck is so named because of its self importance and flamboyant plumage like the high officials yuan mandarins of the Imperial court. It symbolizes loyalty as the ducks mate for life. The whole vessel is large in size, exquisite in craftsmanship, and magnificent. Mark on base, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double Square Borders, Made In The Years of Chenghua Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
