Chinese Late Qing Dynasty Wucai Porcelain Sleeve Vase with Flowering Trees, Lotus and Bird Decoration

Period of Manufacture: Late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
Dimensions: 14 3/8"(h), 4 1/2" diameter at shoulder

For your consideration is a Qing Dynasty 'wucai' porcelain sleeve vase with paneled decoration. The neck of the vase Is decorated with (2) large green enamel outlined cartouche each depicting various objects - vases of flowering prunus, brush pots, fruits and budding bulb bowls. These cartouche are surrounded by an iron red fish scale design stopped just above the vase's shoulder by a pale green border with a repeating snail-like decoration. The cartouche are punctuated on each side by a grouping of (3) artemesia leaves. The body of the vase is then split into (4) elongated panels - each with a slightly different scene. The first scene depicts an upward stretching flowering prunus branch while the second panel looks very similar in design and is almost a mirror image of the first. The third panel show a flowering peony with large, intricately decorated flowers and a bird flittering about. The final panel depicts a lotus in full bloom ascending from nurturing waters. The bottom most portion of the vase is shows a scrolling lotus vine with flowers set against a pale yellow ground. The base is unglazed and no markings are noted.

The vase may have been drilled at one time to be made into a lamp, but it seems to have been professionally repaired with a porcelain plug.
