Description
MASSIVE FOSSIL COPROLITE PILE
Sauropod
Jurassic
Morrison Formation, Carbon Co, Wyoming
Coprolite is the name given to dinosaur droppings. A rare occurrence in the fossil record, not only can they provide information about the dietary habits of the ancient creatures, but they unexpectedly beautiful objects in their own right. Such is the case here, wonderfully textured and richly colored with veins and flecks of earthy red on pale creamy gray, with a couple of the botryoidal protrusions worn smooth to reveal a striking white interior bull's-eye, rimmed with a lovely faint pale blue. A large and aesthetic example, it measures approximately 8 x 6 1/2 x 7 inches.
