An original poster measuring 30 x 21 in. color, ca. 1970s, shows a determined Vietnamese soldier in the heat of battle, ready to launch a grenade at the enemy, with his supporting force in traditional Chinese headgear in the background. Captioned ‘Victory must belong to the heroic Vietnamese people!’. Vietnam communists had towed the party line of the PRC since 1949 and, at the time of this poster, China was trying to broker a treaty between the Americans and the Vietnamese. This poster is clearly aimed to foster pro-Vietnam sentiment. Ironically, not a few years later China would launch a counterattack against its former ally in the ‘Self-Defensive Counterattack Against Vietnam’. Very good to near fine.
