Good lot of seven ‘Harper’s Weekly’ newspapers, each 11 x 16 in., varying pages, all from 1863, some duplicates. The covers feature half page illustrations, the topics ranging from Adjutant General Thomas addressing the ‘negroes’ in Louisiana on freedom, the capture of the Steamer ‘Chesapeake’ by British pirates, the sinking of the gunboat ‘Cincinnati’, the Canal Convention, and General Warren and his men fortifying his lines across the Weldon railroad. Dates of issues are as follows: Oct. 1, 1864, June 20, 1863 (duplicate), Nov. 10, 1860, Dec. 26, 1863 (duplicate), and Nov. 14, 1863. WITH the front page of a March 6, 1880 edition, bearing a full-page illustration of a carnival procession, captioned ‘The Carnival in Havana – General Grant in the Procession’. Seven pieces. Marginal tears throughout, expected from age, else very good.
