Description
A carved wooden ceremonial dance mask with stylized face, extended lips, incised linear designs and a very weathered and well worn surface suggesting great age and field use over generations. Dan peoples, Liberia, West Africa. The mask measures 9.5 x 6 inches. There is no display stand with this mask. Provenance: Field collected by Friar Biggane prior to 1966 in Liberia, or possibly the Ivory Coast, West Africa.
Condition
fair, very well worn, weathered and decayed, what remains is stable.
