**Originally Listed At $200**

Oceania, Melanesia, Trobriand Islands, ca. 19th century CE. A wooden club carved in a slender paddle shape with a braided rattan cord around the handle. The wood is smooth and silky to the touch with a lustrous patina. Wooden clubs were used as utilitarian protective weapons in battle and to settle disputes, and the ornately carved types were ceremonial objects that denoted power. Size: 38" L x 3.5" W (96.5 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii collection, acquired 2000 to 2010

Condition
Gouge and abrasion to the blade surface as shown, splintering and chipping to peripheries. Loss to pommel finial. Damages are older with patina and soft edges. Surface is lustrous with patina and the rattan braid is intact.
