Lot 92: Baron Rothschild | Gifted Vacheron Constantin 18K Gold Wristwatch
A Vacheron Constantin 18k gold wristwatch, gifted, c. 1961, to a worker for 30 years of service to the Rothschild family.
The wristwatch, ref. 6304, of mechanical movement, the circular cream-colored dial, with gold baton numerals, gold hands, subsidiary dial, within a polished 18k gold case, to the brown leather strap, with Swiss assay marks and the verso inscribed, "Chateau de Pregny, 1931-1961," with the facsimile signature of Baron Rothschild, 36 mm case. Together with a brown suede watch case.
Built in 1858 by Adolphe Carl de Rothschild, Chateau de Pregny (often referred to as the Rothschild Castle) became the home of Baron Edmond Adolphe and his family after inheriting it from his father, Maurice de Rothschild (the cousin of Adolphe).
According to the consignor, they acquired the watch from a woman who inherited it from her father-in-law, the son of its original recipient.
