Description
This is a Mahanoy and Broad Mountain Railroad 1866 pass. Nice used condition. Reverse side has a 2 cent US postage stamp from the period that is uncancelled. This railroad was a predecessor to the Reading Railroad and was founded in 1861. Also of note was that this was an incline railroad which traversed Broad Mountain between the towns of Mahanoy Plane and Frackville, with a 28 degree rise at its steepest point. Though locomotives could only tow 3 cars at a time up the grade, and average of 800-900 cars went up and down the mountain daily! Super rare, impossible to find item. Reading enthusiasts will want this for their collections!
