Description
Pre-Columbian to Post-Conquest, Peru, Chimu / Inca, ca. 1450 to 1550 CE. A fabulous pair of blackware vessels, each exhibiting a rare and elaborate form. First, the larger of the 2 is a whistling vessel featuring a body comprised of squash-like fruits surmounted by a tubular spout and a bridge-form handle. Alternatively, the more petite jar displays 4 faces - 2 of a human and 2 of a camelid - with only 2 pairs of eyes that are shared between the men and beasts. Size of larger (squashes): 3.4" L x 7.1" W x 8.6" H (8.6 cm x 18 cm x 21.8 cm)

Condition
Larger still functions as a whistle and has had spout and handle professionally repaired with restoration over break lines. Both have some expected nicks and abrasions, commensurate with age. Otherwise, more petite vessel is intact and both have excellent presentations and good remaining detail.
