LOT NOTES
The portrait is a study for Portrait of a Woman, that possibly depicts the artist's wife, Ms Elizabeth Johnson, a more finished version of this portrait was sold by Sotheby's (Sotheby's, New York, September 26, 1990, lot 106) and again by Bonhams (Bonhams, December 4, 2013, lot 48)
CONDITION
Observed in frame, the painting is wax lined in the back, rubbing and minor paint loss along the perimeter, scattered surface craquelure, heavy varnish and signs of retouching. A couple of spots of surface dirt.
