Description
This is an astounding pair of buffalo hide beaded warrior?s moccasins from the Northern Cheyenne dating to circa 1870?s. The set is comprised of Indian brain tanned buffalo / bison hide with parfleched hard sole rawhide soles / bottoms. The set is stuffed with old newspaper and clothe to keep their shape with minor wear from true age and Indian use with minimal bead loss. The beadwork shows classic Cheyenne pattern in all 19th Century period correct glass trade seed / cen beads showing colors of chalk white, cobalt, red white heart and greasy yellow. This shows a tab and buffalo or horse track design, truly a beautiful set. The ties have been replaced and the set shows sinew and thread sewing. The soles have a hard base with dark coloring from true wear and the hide is mostly supple with some stiffness. Provenance: From the ex-Tom Hardy collection Indianapolis, Indiana. Each measures 11 inches in length by 4 ? inches wide.
