Lynne Mapp Drexler (American 1928-1999) Oil on canvas landscape with heavy impasto strokes, " Earthen Song 3" 1976 signed and titled on reverse -55 x 21" on unstretched canvas 60 x 25" . Lynne Mapp Drexler has had a significant reappraisal of her work in recent decades. Drexler began her career in New York studying with such luminaries as Hans Hoffman and Robert Motherwell . Despite promising early shows at Tanager Gallery and other New York Art institutions Drexler moved to Monhegan Island in Maine for a life of solitude. Since her passing in 1999 her work has garnered significant interest as a member of the New York school and an important abstract expressionist, with numerous articles in art publications. This piece comes from the collection of Marianne Shaw Blanchard, a resident of Monhegan Island, Maine. Marianne was an avid art collector, befriended Lynne Mapp Drexler.
