Description
Very Rare large late 18th to early 19th century silver Torah pointer. Given the scale, this wonderful Torah pointer was made for a synagogue use and not simply for personal reading of the Torah, Wonderful early Byzantine style and design with use of wonderful Niello enamel work creating diamond, checkered and Florette designs. There is a long silver chain and a compartment for incense at the top with the Lion of Judah adorning the very top. The silver weight is approximately 171 grams, it is about a foot long and the yad is further adorned with a ring. It appeared to be marked 984, which would indicate a higher silver content. This Torah pointer is a museum piece and represents the culture and history of Maghrebi Jews from Libya, Tunisia, Iraq, PALESTINE, NORTH AFRICA and ALGERIA! THIS Yad is a marvelous and memorable.
