One branch of the Havemeyers married into the Old Westbury, Long Island branch of the Vanderbilt Whitney family, coincidentally the source of the first 100 lots of this sale. These Havemeyer related lots come from the estate of Mrs Caroline Dodd Butts Kilbourne, late of Floridas Gulf Coast, with many of the present 25 lots descending from 19th century ancestors. Havemeyers were important figures in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Shelburne Museum.
