Description
Warren Telechron Co., Ashland, Mass., a "Type B" master clock, in an oak case with silvered dial, the displays driven by a mechanical clock movement and synchronous motor, and used to determine fluctuations in the frequency of electric current
Condition
Case retains an original finish with scattered surface scuffs, particularly on lower base, door escutcheon missing, original Telechron label is marked with serial number 673. Original pendulum, minute hand missing but tail portion included. Original silvered dial with surface scratches. Prior to this device, regulating the cycles of AC current at 60 Hz was very hit or miss. Invented by Henry Warren, this clock helped the station operators adjust the generator output to average 60 cycles per second. The spring driven side of the master clock movement would be corrected each day, and made to run with extreme accuracy. A time train is also powered by a 60 Hz synchronous motor, and the single large hand indicates, to either the left or right, deviation from that frequency. For additional information, see "Henry Warren and His master clocks", NAWCC Bulletin No.273, August 1991, pages 374-395. An explanation of the function can also be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHPdLRld4sI, ACCESSORIES: Pendulum Rod, Pendulum Bob, Winding Crank, Door Key, circa 1930
