Description

Chariot c.1870, 11 1/2"h, 20 1/2"l, 8 1/2"w, modelled as cart upon two wheels and draped with vine, two boys pulling to the front, a girl pushing behind, all in 18th century style rural dress, all upon an oval pedestal base. Shape No.1272. Only two known. This example is was exhibited in the exhibition Majolica Mania, Bard Graduate Center, New York, 24 September 2021-2 January 2022, Walters Art Museum, 27 February 2022-7 August 2022. This example is published in Majolica Mania, Volume 2, Page 83. An example shown at the Paris Universal Exhibition 1868 and is illustrated in the Art Journal catalogue.
