Mourners (Study for Death of a Miner).
Pen and ink on cream wove paper, circa 1949. 222x152 mm; 8¾x6 inches. Signed in blue ink, lower right and inscribed "Centralia" in ink, lower left.

WITH -- Untitled (Starving Boy), pen and ink on buff wove paper. 229x305 mm; 9x12 inches. Signed in ink, lower right. Circa 1949.

This funeral image is a study for the group depicted in the upper right corner of Ben Shahn's painting Death of a Miner (1949), collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, depicting the diaster that happened in Centralia, IL in 1947.
