Description
West or South Africa, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An interesting pottery figure depicting an African man dressed in Colonial garb while riding atop a horse. Dozens of thin striations create the horse's fur as well as the texture of the man's jacket while remains of white pigment are visible on the man's bell-shaped hat. Size: 7.75" L x 3.6" W x 8.2" H (19.7 cm x 9.1 cm x 20.8 cm)

Repaired with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Chips to horse and figure, with minor softening to finer details, and light earthen deposits. Interesting figural form.
