A monumental sterling silver salver raised on four feet. The rim with an elaborate design of foliate and shell motifs, the body with engraved decoration with a central armorial of the Douglasof Mains family. Likely related to Colin Douglas taking the title 18th of Mains in 1838. Hallmarked to reverse: James McKay, Edinburgh, 1839. Transitional marks bearing William IV's head, dated to early Queen Victoria's reign. Dia.: 58 cm (22 3/4 in.) 4,242g of total weighable silver
