Texas History Movies, the popular cartoon strip drawn by Jack Patton first ran in The Dallas Morning News, and was then published in book form in 1928. But the cartoons about Texas history didn’t die. The originals were reprinted again and again in books and distributed to hundreds of thousands of Texas public school students for the next 30 years. A paperback edition was distributed to Texas school children at no cost. Some argue the book fostered racial stereotypes.
