Pre-Columbian gold figure of a cacique, Tairona culture, Colombia, CE 1000-1500. The standing figure of a male cacique shown holding part of his ritual belt with each hand. A large concentric headdress frames his regally adorned head. He wears articulated earrings, a nose plug and a lip plug, and dons a brimmed cap with ax head-like forms on each side. Such hollow cast gold figures are one of the iconic images of South American pre-Columbian art. An important and highly desirable example. XRF tested. Custom acrylic stand. 3" in height. 40% Gold.
